Q: How do you price your products?
A: Honor Boards priced one at a time average
between $1,250.and $2,250.USD depending on the size,
number of dates and names and their execution and treatment
of the crest or artwork. A one-time art set-up fee of
$ 200 is usually required to properly prepare the crest
for carving.
Q: Do you offer discounts for sets of Honor Boards?
A: We do indeed. If you order three or more boards,
the discount is 12%.

Q: What is gold leaf? Is it paint? Why is it so
good in letters and artwork?
A: Gold leaf is just that-real gold, usually in
3" x 3" leaves ready for the artist or craftsperson
to apply. Gilding, the application of genuine gold leaf,
hasn't changed much for nearly 6,000 years. Traditionally,
it is hand-hammered into thin sheets, cut and packed
into "books" of 25 leaves. An adhesive, or
glue, is carefully applied to the design area and when
properly cured, is ready for gold leaves to laid on
and burnished. The "color" of gold leaf depends
on the alloy with which it is hammered; 23 karat gold
is 23 karats of gold and one karat of an alloy and has
the rich, glowing color usually associated with decorations
in churches or in carved lettering. But other colors
also exist, such as 18 K (lemon), 16 K (pale) and 10K
(white). Using combinations of these colors makes for
attractive and unexpected design detail.

Q: Why not use gold paint?
A: Gold paint is made by immersing chards of
metal flakes into oil "vehicle", which includes
flowing, drying and glossing agents. But since most
of the metal flakes aren't genuine gold, there is the
very real threat of oxidation (rusting) of the metal
flakes. This is why gold paint typically turns a flat
brown in a very short time.
Only genuine gold can withstand the elements, whether
inside or out. Properly applied by an accomplished craftsperson,
it doesn't tarnish, corrode or weather.

Q: How long does it take to get a set of boards?
A: Generally a set of C&E Honor Boards will
be delivered six to eight weeks following final design
approval. However, in the event of an extraordinary
circumstance, our production team will try to figure
out an earlier delivery schedule.

Q: What kind of guarantee do you offer?
A: We unconditionally guarantee our products
for 10 years against defects in workmanship. About the
only thing we can't control is ultra violet damage from
the sun.

Q: How will I know what my product will look like?
Do I get a sketch or drawing before you start work?
A: Our design and approval process is something
we take very seriously, for any number of reasons. First,
we want you to be absolutely thrilled with the design,
color and carving we suggest. Second, we want spelling
to be absolutely accurate, so we have a multi-step proofing
process to minimize any possibility of misspelling.
And third, we want to be sure that any design fits well
into your culture, traditions and architecture.
Once you've selected a shape, wood type, stain color
and lettering style, our designers prepare drawings
to scale for your review. Only after your signature
do we start the manufacturing process.
If you are more comfortable depending on our experience
for the best look, we're happy to suggest alternatives
to you. Again, only after your approval do we start
work.

Q: Can you customize stains and paints to match
our interiors? We are doing a renovation and want to
make sure everything coordinates well.
A: "Fit" and "Coordination"
are the key words. From shape to stain to typestyle
we want our products to complement your efforts. Sometimes
we match stains or paints exactly; other times we design
coordinating tones to best contrast with your décor.

Q: Our club has been around for a long time. If
you make new boards for us, how do we manage the existing
collection?
A: We treat antiques with particular reverence,
be they furniture or boards. But sometimes existing
boards have fallen into disrepair; finishes have failed,
shapes no longer complement the new renovation or look
of the club, or typestyles have changed and there is
no long the feeling of continuity that once existed.
We are specialists in designing sets of boards, including
the remaking of old ones. We treat the history and names
with great dignity when we assign new materials and
layouts. Ask us for some references from clients who
have participated in this kind of design challenge.

Q: Why not use a trophy supplier or the local sign
supplier when I want a set of Honor Boards?
A: If the goal in ordering a set of boards is
to best complement the décor and best recognize
the names or events of historical importance, a specialist
is the best alternative. At Cooke&Eaton, our approach
to design and manufacture is as a specialty , not just
another job. Our years of experience in just such situations
means we can custom design shape, color, type style
and finish to virtually any new or renovation program.
We also can bring the perfect mix of traditional hand
skills to join the newest technologies to assure the
project is completed on time, on budget and is serviced
properly for years to come.

Q: How do I send in my company crest or logo?
A: These days artwork lives in print and on disks,
so it is important to communicate ahead of time in order
to save time. Typically, we can use both IBM and Mac
formats, provided that the files are prepared properly.
Illustrator and .eps files also are acceptable.
The best strategy is to contact our design team and
review the your file's environment. We can then specify
the best export and import methods so both accuracy
as well as efficiency is addressed. Most of the time,
electronic transfer via the internet is a most efficient
and effective file transfer plan.

Q: Do you do all the design work or can you
work with my designer?
A: We take pride both in our design abilities as well
as in our willingness to participate as team players.
We can use your existing crest to propose an attractive
layout, or work directly with your designer or architect
to best add to the design process.
